Description
: Hard to find original pillow case/holder with a Patriotic US flag pocket and a “Forget me not” poem.
This is a rare army/navy souvenir from the WWI period made entirely of silk. Back is made of purple silk and front depicts an American patriotic design on top and the US flag on bottom with black and white hand-sewn border frame. Top shows three American bald eagle holding shields, two flags to the sides, an anchor crossed by two cannons on bottom, a “Forget me not” poem on center and flowers all around. Patriotic poem reads "When the golden sun is sinking // And your mind from troubles free // While of others you are thinking // Will you sometimes think of me".
Made in USA, circa 1900's.
Dimensions
: 14 7/8" (38 cm) x10 5/8" (27 cm).
Condition
: Somewhat frayed silk and slightly soiled here and there because of wear and pass of time (please see pictures.) Two stripes and a row of stars hidden under edge trim. Otherwise, very fine to excellent overall condition.
