The quarter’s reverse, Designed by Gary Whitley and sculpted by Michael Gaudioso, the reverse features a Coquitree frog sitting on a leaf and a Puerto Rican parrot behind an epiphyte plantwith tropical flora in the background. Inscriptions include EL YUNQUE, PUERTO RICO, 2012 and E PLURIBUS UNUM.
Obverse show portrait of George Washington, the first President of the United States.
The portrait was originally designed by John Flanagan and has been seen on quarters (with minor variations) since 1932. Obverse inscriptions include UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, LIBERTY, IN GOD WE TRUST, QUARTER DOLLAR and Mint sign.
