The design of the 42nd release of the U.S. Mint's America the Beautiful Quarters series is a tribute to Wisconsin's Apostle Islands National Lakeshore. This 2018-S Apostle Islands Quarter is struck from 0.1808 Troy oz. of .900 fine silver with a gorgeous Reverse Proof finish. Minted in San Francisco, the coin was originally included in the San Francisco Mint 2018 Silver Reverse Proof Set, issued in honor of 50 years of proof minting at the San Francisco facility.
Gorgeous Lakeshore Design
The reverse depiction of a kayaker gliding past the sea caves along the Lakeshore's Devils Island is the work of Richard Masters and Renata Gordon. Inscribed "APOSTLE ISLANDS," "WISCONSIN," "2018" and "E PLURIBUS UNUM." John Flanagan's sculpture of George Washington adorns the obverse, surrounded by "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," "LIBERTY," "IN GOD WE TRUST," "QUARTER DOLLAR" and the Mint mark "S."
