    Description

Antique McClellan pack saddle, rigged as a pack saddle, used for many years on an authentic Montana homestead ranch. Neat piece for display, or possibly to rebuild? See pics-- top of tree has been chipped off at the front, leather is old and dry rotted, much of the original rigging is gone. The two cinch guards are marked W.H. & M. Co., and under that J.E.S. (If you know what that means, please message me, I'd love to learn!) One cinch guard also has a number stamped above it, but it is illegible (I enhanced the photo to try and read it, if you wipe it with water to highlight it, it appears to read 10-16-11.) As was common in the west, this particular ranch bought a ton of old WW1 surplus after it was decommissioned, and used the stuff in their pack string for years (in fact, the horses used to get their grain in old metal WW1 doughboy helmets!). Ships with a quilted antique pad, not a military pad but the pack pad that was used with this saddle. Thanks for supporting our small Montana business, and check out the other vintage tack I have in my store!
