    Description

A superb and rare photo of the famous
    BMW factory riders
    Wilhelm Noll
    (right) and his co-rider
    Fritz Cron
(left), photographed on the winners stage after winning the
    1954 Italian Grand Prix
    - a.k.a. the
    Grand Prix of Nations
    -
    AND
    with that they
    WON
    the
    1954 Sidecar World Championship
    ! They rode a
factory BMW RS 500 R50/2 Rennsport sidecar racer
to this magnificent success! It was BMW's FIRST world championship title ever; and the first in a long row of sidecar world titles! But, this was the FIRST!
    Wilhelm Noll
was one of BMW’s most famous factory racing riders, accompagnied by passenger athlete
    Fritz Cron
    they won the
    1954
    and
    1956
sidecar world championships. Thesedays the sidecar worldchampionship is known as the Superside world championship. They had a fast yet very secure riding style. Noll and Cron are seen riding the BMW R50/2 factory side car racer, which debuted a few years earlier. The engine of this magnificent machine was developed out of the famous pre-war Kompressor BMW racer (with which Georg “Schorsch” Meier won the 1939 edition of the Isle of Man 500cc Senior TT), but it had to perform its duty without the Supercharger, as they were banned in international racing after World War II. The BMW RS Rennsport racers have an honorary place amongst the most famous racing machines of the Golden Era of Roadracing, the 1950’s. Thesedays the sidecar worldchampionship is known as the Superside world championship.
This is a very rare image, as it shows the 1954 BMW world chafactory racer while equipped with a sidecar. BMW would score several world championship in this class.
