This is handmade pottery dog (Boston terrier figure) made by
Tokoname ware
(Tokoname-yaki) and one-of-a-kind item. Tokoname ware is a type of Japanese pottery produced in and around the municipality of Tokoname, Aichi, in central Japan and is the location of one of the Six Ancient Kilns of Japan. Its greatest feature is the use of iron-rich clay from the Chita Peninsula. By using porcelain clay with a high iron content, it becomes a vermilion color peculiar to Tokoname ware.
