The X-1 Sky Cycle was powered by a steam jet engine that was designed by Robert Truax, who would also build the X-2 Skycycle. After the failed test attempt the decision was made to make the new X-2 Sky Cycle more like a rocket then a riding motorcycle. The X2 Skycycle was used for the
Snake River
Canyon
attempt in
Idaho
on
September 8, 1974
.
Evel Knievel
is without doubt the greatest stuntmaster EVER. It takes somebody full of TRUE GUTTS to did what he did. Every time he used his Sky Cycle he was rocketed away as a missile. It is incredible his body was able withstand the gigantic forces.
The X2 SkyCycle during its attempt  in 1974 rocketed over the canyon, but after the parachute opened he was blown back into the canyon. He landed very closely by the thundering rapids of the
Snake River
. If he landed into the water he regrettably for us all would have drowned.
The jumps that Evel Knievel performed are totally not comparable with the jumps todays stuntmasters make on bikes that weigh halve the weight, accelerate much faster and have 6 times more suspension travel then the bikes Evel used to jump with!
