Description
Fabulous Embroidered 3rd Field Artillery Bugle BannerRich embroidery on silk, with golden yellow silk fringe, Circa- WW1 to 20’s.
The workmanship on this bugle banner for the 3rd U.S. Field Artillery is very similar embroidery seen on regimental colors of this era, and into the WWII era.
The size, 8.5 x 13.5 inches (not including fringe) is about the same size I have seen in this WWI - early Interwar period.
The embroidery is double side.
Fine gold thread separated the white silk chevron at the center. You can see a good portion of the red cording remains.
Color is super, with just a few areas of weakness to the silk; some areas of stress tears in the white chevron on one side only, that same side shows some soiling in the upper right hand corner, but not overly so. The opposite side is fine with much less soiling and one hard to see stress tear. The fringe is fine with only a few strands showing pulling away.
Is there a possibility that this could have been used in the WWII era, maybe, but all indication seems to go against that assumption. The pomp seemed to go out of WWII, with field armies and their rapid movements across Europe in WWII, having light use for such trappings.
A gorgeous piece.
