    Description

Vintage Authentic WWI Litho Art Poster circa 1917 by artist WALTER DE MARIS (1877-1947) 'Have you room in your heart for us.  Fatherless Children of France, Inc'. published by American Litho Co. New York.   Measures 20x30".  A startlingly poignant poster for war relief made all the more so by De Maris's artistic style which resembles children's fairy tales of the early 20th century.   By 1915, there were many French fathers dead at the Western Front and the French government could not support widows and their children.  10 cents a day, or .50 a year, was needed to care for children, so the charity Fatherless Children of France arranged for subscribers to 'adopt' a child – seemingly a precursor of Christian Aid organizations today.  De Maris, the artist, was an illustrator for Harper's, the Saturday Evening Post, Puck, Life Magazine... and numerous pulp magazine covers throughout his career.  Condition is good there is piece missing along top and wear along edges including two 1" tears which we have repaired with document preservation tape.  Also some surface rippling from 100+ year age.  These are on thinner paper not the heavier stock nowadays so they were easily prone to rips and most were obviously damaged and destroyed over time.  But here is your chance to obtain an outstanding WWI-related work of art.  This will ship rolled in a box (not tube).  Please zoom in on all pics as part of description.  Contact us any questions we try our best and please follow our store if you seek rare and unique.
