. Bob McIntyre would win the race with an average speed of
111.89 mph
(180.07 km/hr), and he would finish 3
rd
in the 350cc World Championship that year!
He is seen at the beginning stages of the race on the famous circuit of
Monza
in
Northern Italy
, closely followed by the 500cc World Champion of 1957 on Gilera, Libero Liberati, with starting number 2. Both men are riding the fabulous Gilera 350cc four cylinder racer. A perfectly engineered racing machine that knew immense success throughout its 350cc and 500cc model life. In 1957 Bob McIntyre wrote in a most impressive way history by winning both the 350cc Junior as the 500cc Senior T.T. on the Isle of Man with the 350cc and 500cc Gilera four. He became the first man to lap the
Isle of Man
T.T.
Mountain
circuit with an average speed of over
100 mph
! Impressively, the Senior T.T. was an 8 lap race! In 1957 Bob finished 2nd in the 500cc world championship and 3rd in the 350cc world championship. He also established a great series of world records on the
Monza
autodrome circuit late 1957. On a 350cc four he broke the hour record with an average speed of
141 mph
!
