Description

A superb and rare photo of the
Harley-Davidson F-head worksracer
with one of the most successful Harley racers ever:
Jim Davis.
Jim Davis was an incredible rider that scored many early race wins for both the Harley-Davidson as the Indian factory in the 1920s and 1930s.  On
July 26
th
, 1924
, he won the first ever national race as sanctioned by the AMA.  This was at
Toledo
in the State of
Ohio
.  It was the first victory of many, as
Davis
continued to
win
no less then
21 national championships
!  This wasn’t a very big surprise, as he already had won 50 (!) pre AMA national championships.  In 2000
Davis
unfortunately passed away. He lived to the grand age of 103 years.  During the Second World War,
Davis
served in the United States Army as a motorcycle escort and dispatch rider.
Davis
was also known for his work for the Highway Patrol of the State of
Ohio
–he formed the motorcycle division of the patrol.
The racer Jim is sitting on is an F-head factory racer.  The inlet valve is an overhead valve, the exhaust valve is a side valve.  This so called i.o.e. (inlet over exhaust) design worked incredibly well for H-D.
This is a very nice and very rare
non period
photo that reflects a wonderful era of Harley ‘s motorcycle history in a wonderful way. This is your rare chance to own this photo, therefore it is printed in a nice large format of ca. 8" x 11" (ca.
20 x 27
cm). It makes it perfectly suitable for framing!
Shipping costs will only be $ 7.00 regardless of how many photos you buy.   For 5 or more photos, shipping is free!
