A superb and rare photo of the
Laverda 1000cc factory triple endurance racer
, photographed during the famous 36TH edition of the
Bol d’Or
in
1972
. This photograph was made just before the start of that race. It shows on the
right hand side
the nr. 62 factory endurance
1000 3CL
triple, and on the
left hand side
the nr. 63 factory prepared
Laverda 750 SFC
. The endurance 1,000cc Laverda as photographed was ridden by Doug Cash and Tony Melody. After 5 hours of racing they were forced to retire, the gearbox seized. The Laverda 1,000cc triple was fitted with a 750SFC fairing and a 250mm
Fontana
front brake.
In the
USA
, Laverda was also marketed under the
American Eagle
name.
A very nice photo that reflects a wonderful era of Laverda’s glorious history in a wonderful way.
