Description
Pyridine is a foul-smelling and hygroscopic liquid that finds many uses in organic chemistry. It is a weak base that is used as an acid scavenging solvent as well as a catalyst for condensation, dehalogenation, esterification, epoxidation, and acylation reactions. It is used to catalyze Knoevenagel condensation reactions of malonic acid. When used in the Giff system it can oxidize hydrocarbons to a mixture of ketones and alcohols, and it accelerates Lead (IV) Acetate oxidations like the oxidation of benzyl alcohol to benzaldehyde. It can also be used to prepare pyridinium salts such as Pyridinium chlorochromate which selectively oxidizes alcohols to ketones and aldehydes. Pyridine is also used as a ligand in transition metal complexes. One example of such a complex is Crabtree’s catalyst. This product will be shipped in a amber glass bottle capped with a polypropylene cap lined with polyethylene foam and PTFE to make sure the solvent wont leak and the cap wont be damaged in prolonged storage. The bottle will be wrapped in a sheet of Street Fyter Universal Sorbent SFG-70. In an unlikely case of a spill, this sheet will absorb the compound but not neutralize it. If you require larger amounts of this product, please message me because they are available at a bulk discount. Larger bottles can be shipped with a PTFE septum cap so that the solvent can be transferred out of the bottle with a syringe. This should help with the odor. For laboratory use only!
