RARE WWI TAIL NUMBER FABRIC FROM USN EXPERIMENTAL AIRCRAFT 1917 W/ PILOT ARCHIVE

Approx 3 1/2" x 10" cut fabric from tail of very early USN seaplane with BuNo A-153, on piece of worn scrapbook paper.   A-153 was an experimental seaplane brought to NAS Pensacola in August 1917.   It was presumably damaged, and stricken in Feb 1918.   This piece of fabric was souvenired by Naval Aviator 198.    It was found with his WWI souvenirs.   Included is an original page of his flight record (he didn't keep a logbook) from Nov 1917.   It shows that on Nov 23, 1917 he took up A-153 for 35 minutes to a max of 5000 ft for the purpose of preforming stunts.   This is the only stunt flight recorded in his records and I would guess it made an impression on him leading to him souveniring the fabric when the aircraft was later stricken.  In addition an unusually large original photo of this pilot training in mechanics on A-2281 is included - approx 11" x 14".   Another studio photo of the pilot, a typed letter home from 1918 regarding flying and training, and his period newspaper article on Seaplane stunting.   Some wear and age.  Great piece of history with full provenance.   I was unable to source a photo of this aircraft to learn of it experimental characteristics.   Apparently A-154 was another of this type slated to be built but the project was abandoned.
