    Description

Fine Original Record of U.S. Soldier K.I.A. in France WWI
Up for sale are two (2) fine documents dated 1920 documenting the record of a brave United States soldier who was killed in action in France during WWI. The first document certifies that Corporal Daniel J. Kelly. Co. B, 28
    th
Infantry “died with Honor seventh day of August, 1918”. From the U.S. War Dept. The second document from the First Division U.S. Army notes that Kelly was cited for “gallantry in action” and “who died of wounds received in action near Soissons, France August 7
    th
, 1918”. The Battle of Soissons was fought from July 18-22 1918 and resulted in almost 120,000 casualties for the Allied armies of France, GB and the U.S. (with 11,000 U.S. casualties and over 168,000 German casualties. Soissons fell to the Allied forces and the campaign ended officially August 6
    th
so certainly Kelly most probably was one of the last US soldiers killed in that battle.
With some research his specific action should be recorded as well as his obituary as he was awarded the Distinguished Service Cross for his service.
Fine WWII collector’s memorabilia especially for those who collect Irish heritage memorabilia.
