These can be used on a gas stovetop on low/med heat or with a canned heat sterno. These are porcelain coated steel otherwise known as enamelware. Can be used with essential oil to make your home smell nice or be used the way it is supposed to be used. Great item for a WWI or WWII hospital display. Sterno Canned Heat Vaporizer was made for the US military to use in the hospitals as a portable form of treatment. Used typically with Vicks Vaposteam. It was filled half way with water and with 1 teaspoon of vicks put over the sterno and positioned in between two beds to help sick patients breath better. How did I verify the date?
